How to Sign Up:

You can sign up for NaNoWriMo at any time, year-round. To participate during National Novel Writing Month, which takes place in November, just click on the “Sign Up” button on the homepage of the NaNoWriMo website. https://nanowrimo.org/

You can announce your National Novel Writing Month novel usually beginning sometime in September, and start writing at the stroke of midnight on November 1.

If you are unsure of how to sign up for NaNoWriMo, the Upper Hutt City Library is hosting NaNoWriMo Sign Up events- 10am-noon Saturday 31st of October and 10am- Noon Sunday 1st November, where library staff can help you sign up for NaNoWriMo.

Why do NaNoWriMo:

November means National Novel Writing Month—or, NaNoWriMo. This is the month when writers from all over the world write 50,000 words in 30 days. Thousands of writers do it every year, and thousands win (win by writing 50 000 words in November).

Several authors who participated in NaNoWriMo are now published. These authors include: Erin Morgenstern, Stephanie Perkins, Elizabeth Acevedo, Mary Robinette Kowal, Rainbow Rowell, Rebecca Roanhorse, Marissa Meyer, Sara Gruen, Hugh Howley and Hank Green.

At its heart, NaNoWriMo is all about fostering creativity, encouraging emerging writers, and above all, motivating you to complete that novel you've always dreamed of writing. If you have ever had a great story idea or wanted to write a novel. This year is the year. Sign up to join NaNoWriMo and write your dream novel. Maybe you’ll win NaNoWriMo or maybe you’ll fail but you’ll fall back in love with writing and one day be published. Be brave and try. Remember all books start with one word on the page.
