Public Computers

The Upper Hutt City Libraries has 20 Chromebooks available for public use with FREE internet and WiFi at Upper Hutt Central and Pinehaven Libraries as part of library memberships. Guest Passes are available to visitors.

The Library is part of the Aotearoa People’s Network Kaharoa (APNK) who provide free internet and WiFi to libraries in New Zealand. Chromebooks are hybrid tablet/laptops that you can issue and use anywhere within the Library (they will not function outside of the Library).

Your Library card is required to access these computers, and space and time may be limited.

Software available

  • Google Docs through your Google Account
  • Google Chrome

Other web-based word processing services are available.

Feel free to bring a USB so you can save, scan and print documents.

 

WiFi

We offer free WiFI access through APNK, available from 7.30am – 9.30pm.

To access the WiFi, you will need to find the “APNK” network on your device and connect. Once connected you will need enter the WiFi Password and agree to the APNK terms and conditions.

Printing, Photocopying and Scanning in the Library

 

Printing charges

A4 Black and White printing 20c/ page
A4 Colour printing $1/ page

 

Printing from the Library Chromebooks

  • Click on File > Print (Or CTRL +P).
  • Check the settings and change as required.
  • Click Print.
  • See a staff member at the desk to pay and collect your printing.
  • You will need to bring your Library Card/ Guest Pass number to complete your printing.
  • Advise staff if you require changes e.g. black and white, colour, single or double sided printing or multi-copies.

 

Bring Your Own Device Printing

  • Select file you want to print and attach the file to an email.
  • Email attachment to monitor@print.apnk.nz
  • Wait 2-3 minutes to receive a confirmation email.
  • Find the Job ID in the confirmation email.
  • See a staff member at the desk with your Job ID to pay for and collect your printing.
  • Advise staff if you require changes e.g. black and white, colour, single or double sided printing or multi-copies.

 

Photocopying

Please see staff at the desk to photocopy items.

Scanning

The Library has a scanner which can be used free of charge to email or save documents.

 

Our Internet Use Policy

Users of the Library’s Internet connection are required to have read and agreed with the conditions of this access policy.

Conditions of Use
Use of the Library’s computers must comply with all NZ Legal Statutes. The following are examples of some of the prohibited activities:

  • Accessing pornography
  • Taking copies of copyright material
  • Downloading copyright-protected music
  • Intimidating or offensive behaviour towards other users on the internet

Disclaimer of Responsibilities

  • Use of the computers is the user’s responsibility (Library staff are available to give limited assistance but may not have the expertise or time needed for every request).
  • Parents are advised to supervise their children’s use of the internet.
  • While we endeavour to block unacceptable sites, we cannot guarantee that we are able to prevent all objectionable sites (please let staff know of any offensive material found on a screen).
