Join the Libraries

Our library membership is free and everyone is welcome at Upper Hutt Libraries! Sign up online by clicking on the tabs below or in person at any Upper Hutt Libraries. 

Get a Library Card - Adult (over 16)

Fill in our online registration form.  Then visit us at one of our libraries to setup your new library card.

You will need:

  • Photo I.D (e.g. driver licence, passport or age card) 
  • Temporary Number (from your online registration)

Get a Library Card - Child (under 16)

Fill in our online registration form. Then visit us at one of our libraries to setup your new library card.

You will need:

  • I.D (showing the name of your parent/guardian and signature)
  • Your parent/guardian with you
  • Temporary number from your online registration.

If a child is visiting the Library without a parent/guardian - they can sign up for a Junior Starter card. This allows a child to check out 2 books at a time and use the computers and our Digital Library.

Digital Library Membership

You can sign up for a digital membership to access only our Digital Library.

Just click 'Digital Only Membership' on this form, and fill in your details to receive your Digital Library number.

Joining the Library without ID

If you don't have ID, you can get a restricted membership.

This means you can borrow up to two books and access all our library services.

Fill in our online registration form and visit us at one of our libraries to set up your restricted membership.

You can use your library card at:

  • Central Library
  • Pinehaven Library
  • Pūrehurehu (our library bus)
  • Digital Library (online)

Membership Conditions

As a member of the Upper Hutt Libraries (also refer to here as the Libraries), you agree to the following:

  • To return all items in good condition and on time.

  • To pay any damaged or lost charges.

  • To notify the Libraries of any change of address, phone number or email address.

  • To notify the Libraries immediately if your card is lost or stolen.

  • From time to time, the Libraries may contact you with information on its products and services.

  • To abide by the Libraries' Code of Conduct. As a parent/guardian, you are required to take full responsibility for a child’s use of the Libraries. 

  • You allow your personal information to be used in accordance with the Upper Hutt City Council’s Privacy Statement, which will enable access to library services and may be provided to a debt collection agency who acts on behalf of the Upper Hutt City Council in the event that attempts to settle outstanding charges are unsuccessful.

FAQ

How many items can I borrow?

Borrowing is unlimited on full memberships.

Junior Starter and adult restricted memberships can borrow up to two items.

 

What can I borrow from the Libraries?

You can borrow books, DVDs, board games, digital collection, ukuleles and more!
