No, there isn’t. Your Upper Hutt Libraries card automatically works at the other SMART libraries.
One of the best things about this change is that all the technical work – testing catalogue settings, for example – has taken place behind the scenes. For library members, the move to SMART is seamless.
No, the Upper Hutt Libraries online catalogue defaults to the SMART view. Look in the top left corner of the screen if you want to toggle between the SMART catalogue and the local Upper Hutt catalogue.
When you borrow or reserve an item from a SMART library, you are opting in to the SMART service. You agree to share your data with that library for the purposes of them providing you with library services.

We encourage you to choose one or the other, and we can merge your memberships into one for your convenience. New members are encouraged to join a SMART library in their residential or rate-paying area.
No, reserving any item in the SMART network is free. You select where you would like to pick up your reserved item, and our team will make sure it gets delivered there.
Generally 2-3 days, depending on whether the item is available and able to be located on the shelf.
All libraries in the SMART network are fines-free, so you won’t need to pay any overdue fines for items returned after their due date.
Rental charges will apply for some lending collections. For example, some SMART libraries charge for DVDs. All borrowing conditions of the home SMART library apply.
Some items are unable to be delivered via our courier bins due to their size or fragility. Other items only have a seven-day loan period (e.g. Fastbacks or magazines) so can’t be reserved through the online SMART catalogue.
You’re welcome to visit any SMART library to directly access items that cannot be reserved. Make sure you return large or fragile items directly to the home SMART library, too!
Yes, all items on your account will show in the Upper Hutt Libraries app and in My Account.
Reserves are placed in the title queue in strict order of the time the reserve was placed. It might look like a long queue but there is likely to be multiple items fulfilling those reserves.
Yes, we can still provide an interloan from libraries outside of the SMART network. Interloans incur a $13 charge per item.
