As part of the Wellington Heritage Festival 2025, the Heritage team at Upper Hutt Libraries recently hosted a well-attended event at Silverstream Retreat, celebrating the fascinating history of Silverstream Hospital.

The event was a resounding success, with around 120 attendees joining us on Saturday afternoon.

Feedback from those who attended has been overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing their personal connections to the hospital and its history. One of the most touching moments came when an attendee recognised herself in a historic photograph of the hospital's dispensary, where she had worked as the hospital's pharmacist. The audience gave her a heartfelt round of applause, creating an emotional and unforgettable moment.

The success of the event was made possible thanks to the warm hospitality of George Ross, Director of Silverstream Retreat, and his dedicated team, as well as the thoughtful preparation from our Heritage team.

We'd like to extend a special thank you to the Upper Hutt community for their support of this event. The Heritage team looks forward to continuing to share the rich and diverse history of Upper Hutt and its people through future events.
