Out on the Shelves: Celebrating diversity in literature
Published on 14 May 2024
Attention book lovers of all great literature! This June the library is proud to be part of the upcoming nationwide "Out on the Shelves" celebration.
“Out on the Shelves” is dedicated to promoting LGBTQ+ literature and authors and is designed to connect rainbow young people with the stories that represent them in their schools and communities across Aotearoa. Whether you identify as LGBTQ+, are simply an ally or just love good books with great storylines, “Out on the Shelves” is designed to celebrate diversity, foster inclusivity, and inspire a love of reading.
To kick things off this June, we've lined up events to celebrate all things LGBTQ+ literature. We have also curated a fantastic book display showcasing a wide range of LGBTQ+ literature. From classic works to contemporary fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, and more, there's something for everyone to enjoy. So why not swing by the library and browse our collection? If you prefer online book recommendations, check out our newly updated LGBTQ+ PINTEREST board!
